Hostels in Berlin
Given its fascinating history, Berlin is dotted with attractions that veritably call for your time and attention. The Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie (to list just a few) all tell their own stories of
eras past,
while the renovated Bundestag points to the freshly modernized face the city sports today.
Most of these ‘headlining’ sites are situated within the district of Mitte – Berlin’s appealing centre. And while the areas of
Prenzlauer Berg to the north and Kreuzberg to the south may warrant exploration given their fun and arty vibe,
most travelers find themselves in Mitte for the majority of their stay.
In fact, given the prevalence of top-class hostels in the area, you could probably stay in Berlin without ever leaving Mitte itself.
While Hostels in Berlin are uniformly excellent, the cream of the crop are to be found in Mitte,
where the very idea of hostelling has been taken to a completely new level.
Whether you’re looking for homely comfort, outlandish luxury, or jumping fun, then, there’s a hostel here to meet your needs. The only problem is: Which one to choose?
Citystay Mitte
With the Berliner Dom 400 meters in one direction, and the expansive Alexander Square 400 meters in the other, Citystay Mitte couldn’t be better situated. Walk inside its doors, and you also find it couldn’t be better equipped.
From the minimalist and swanky restaurant to the warming décor of the bedrooms, everything here invites you to stay days, or even weeks, longer than planned.
EastSeven
Located in the very north of Mitte, close to the self-assured and bohemian neighborhood of Prenzlaur Berg, EastSeven feels like walking back into your own home having only just left. Small, humble and outrageously comfortable,
this is the perfect retreat for those seeking respite from a day of heavy sightseeing or a night of heady clubbing.
St Christopher’s Berlin
From the slick apartments to the fun dorms, St. Christopher’s Berlin takes the idea of vibrancy and multiplies it infinitely. The place basically beats to its own rhythm, and whether you’re jamming away in the stadium-rock bar,
or chatting away in the boutique-styled rooms, there’s a sense of enthusiasm and energy that’s just a little infectious to say the least!
Design Hotel DDR
This East Berlin youth hostel allows you to kick back amongst its kitschy 70’s surroundings, and even offers a guided tour of the area conducted from an authentic Soviet Trabant car.
The Design Hostel DDR aims to give its guests the complete experience of life in East Germany during Soviet times – although minus the hunger and impoverishment fortunately!
Heart of Gold
Mitte’s ‘alternative’ hostel finally dispels any of the drab images that may be associated with hostelling. Each room here has stepped straight out of Douglas Adam’s Hitchhikers Guide to the
Galaxy. Literally. With dorms reflecting worlds, and characters adorning walls around every corner, this place is fun and fantasy through and through.
And that’s only a selection –Mitte and Hostels, it seems, just go hand in hand.
